We're looking for a curious and talented coder that is passionate about using their diverse technical skillset to help make great ideas, well, greater.
We're calling this role a Creative Technologist, but if you make the cut, then we can chat about what you're actually called.
So, what will you do?
Simple. Help us generate innovative, tech-based solutions and experiences for our clients.
Specifically, you will be collaborating with strategists, creatives and experience designers to create solutions to problems.
You will be creating testable prototypes for these solutions, so we can validate that our ideas actually add value. We might do this a few times to make sure we're on the right track. Some places have fancy names for this process, but that's just what we do.
You will then help us make sure we have a plan in place to bring our solution to the real-world. We like to partner with other talented people to help with the heavy lifting, but you will be expected to act as a translator to help clients and internal teams navigate the challenges of today's connected world.
So, who are we after?
You can code. Given this role requires someone that knows about a myriad of modern coding frameworks and technologies, you'll obviously have proven experience as a developer. We've listed some of the essentials below as a starter for ten.
You tinker. You've broken things and put them back together just to see how they work. Or, you've seen that new wonderful API / framework / hardware kit and asked yourself, ‘what if?'
You have a voice. You will need to inspire the team and the agency to deliver the best digitally focused work in the world. Show them what good work is, lead from the front, and create the best work.
You want to be part of a highly creative team, bringing ideas to life in a fun, collaborative and supportive team environment.
What makes this role unique?
You will have the opportunity to work across a variety of award winning projects, which means you will be able to really hone your skills, add globally recognised projects to your portfolio, and feel fulfilled by the impact you're making through your work. Outwardly we are a large established agency, but we always work in close cohesion with each other, without being bogged down by a tall hierarchy and status quo.
Skills and Experience:
How long is a piece of string right, but below are a few things we think are pretty essential in today's world.
Front-end web development:
Making websites and prototypes that look great, using modern tools:
- Babel, Webpack etc.
- A framework like React, Vue, or Angular
- Redux (or something similar)
- CSS, SASS (or something similar)
Creating useful services that don't fall over when a million people all hit them at once:
- Hapi, Express, Koa (or something similar)
- CMS frameworks like SilverStripe, Drupal (or something similar)
- A framework like Laravel or CodeIgniter
- Git - Github & Bitbucket
- Continuous Integration & Deployment
- AWS, Google Cloud (or something similar)
- Experience building and working with RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs
Skills that let you explore weird and wonderful ideas – potentially combining art, hardware and animation:
- App development using Unity, iOS or Android
- Creative technologies - such as Arduino, Raspberry PI, Processing, OpenCV
- Some great personal projects
If you don't know these or have experience that's still OK. We'd be expecting someone curious and capable to be comfortable picking them up.
How would we describe ourselves?
Clemenger BBDO is a creative agency that is part of the Clemenger Group - New Zealand's largest and most successful group of creative companies.
We're well recognised for being great at what we do, and have the awards to show for it, but we want to be better – the best even.
So, we're about to change our focus from an advertising agency that just makes ‘ads', to a creative company that designs brilliant solutions that stick and shift culture and society. We're going to do this through innovative stories, experiences, products and systems.
We bring on board people who share our vision and who want to be part of shaping our future.
